Unleash the Therapeutic Power!

We all know that massage is great for you, but did you know that its benefits can actually be heightened just by using essential oils?

One of Creative Chiropractic’s Massage Therapists, Jess, gives us an insight into the unrivalled therapeutic power of a massage on tight muscles together with pre-blended essential oils…

It’s not such a well known fact that the nose contains 10 million neurons called olfactory receptors and they all reach out and catch odour molecules. The olfactory nerve is connected to our emotional centre in the brain called the limbic system. This part of the brain is also involved in controlling heart rate, blood pressure, breathing, reproductive behaviour, memory and our reaction to stress. Certain oils can stimulate specific neuro-chemicals within the nervous system, calming jangled nerves and stimulating the energy flow. The combination of the healing touch of massage together with essential oils work on the body and the mind at the same time.

Essential oils, plants, plant extracts, botanicalsFrom Ancient Egypt to Modern Times…

The earliest evidence we have of using aromatic extracts for beauty, culinary uses, spiritual and physical wellbeing is from 3000-2500 BC in Egypt, where essential oils featured in all aspects of daily life. The Greek physician, Hippocrates, was considered the ‘father of modern medicine’ and he studied and documented the medicinal influence of over 300 plants, reportedly advising, “The way to health is to have an aromatic bath and scented massage every day.” However, the birth of modern aromatherapy occurred in the 1920s when French Chemist René Gattefossé soaked his hand in lavender essential oil after burning himself, as it was the first thing he found. He was surprised that the wound healed so quickly. Before then, in the late 1800’s, researchers had begun using botanical extracts in studies and published their reports in respected medical journals.

Powerful Combination of Massage and Essential Oils…

At Creative Chiropractic, we use pre-blended massage oils by Naturally Thinking (www.naturallythinking.com), a British company specialising in all natural and pre-blended massage oils, each blended for a specific therapeutic and sensual purpose. They smell amazing and when used during a massage, will help to moisturise the skin and make it suppler. More importantly, the oils are drawn into the body through the skin, circulating around the bloodstream and traveling to different organs or body systems. For example, some stimulate circulation, increasing the rate of the elimination of toxins and others act on specific organs, increasing the secretion of body chemicals. Many are highly antiseptic and can also stimulate the production of endorphins which have a pain-relieving and anti-depressant effect. In the Practice, we can map a specific oil used in your massage to what you need…

So how do you feel?

TENSE BODY AND FOGGY MIND? We recommend:

Deep Tissue Massage, Muscle Rub, Creative Chiropractic, massage, treatment, massage oilDeep Tissue Massage with Muscle Rub.

This massage can be full body or focused on specific muscle groups.

A whole-body technique is used combining very gentle pressure with a soft pumping movement in the direction of the lymph nodes. The reason for this light pressure is because the lymph vessels are superficial and too much pressure is thought to close these vessels and stop circulation.

This process allows the blood and lymph circulation to remove the waste and distribute nutrients and oxygen back around the body.

Could you be 10 years younger?

A recent BBC programme How To Stay Young explored the latest research that could help put the brakes on the ageing process with guests invited to discover if their lifestyle had an impact on their ‘body age’ compared to birth age. Evidence suggested that making small changes can indeed slow down ageing and decrease fatigue, illness, disease and injury, but how? Read on to find out…

Ten years younger, Body Composition Monitor, creative chiropractic, health guide, weight loss, healthy, new year, fakenham, north norfolk, norfolkThis time of year, don’t be surprised to see inevitable ‘New Year New You’ adverts for gym memberships, weight loss clubs and diet plans. And all following multiple campaigns last month telling us to indulge and enjoy that extra mince pie!

The opposite and impersonal messages are confusing at best, so it’s no wonder if your well-intentioned healthy New Year’s resolutions lose their way. At the Practice, our approach is all about enabling you to take back control with real-time, individualised information & easy to apply practical advice as well as help to easily monitor your progress. With this in mind, we are introducing a new Personal 30 minute Health Guide as part of our improved offering of services to you.

Mark Wright lost 13lbs in just six weeks with the new Personal Health Guide service at Creative Chiropractic…

And it works!

Meet Mark Wright, After Sales Manager at local Nissan dealer Crayford and Abbs. He visited the Practice six weeks ago with a back issue and was feeling lethargic and mentally “not myself”. He was advised to use our new Body Composition Monitor (BCM) to measure not just weight, but 12 other components, including Metabollic Age, Visceral Fat, Bone Mass and Muscle Mass and Blood Pressure. Using Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA) technology, a Patient receives an immediate and accurate overview of these indicators plus water and fat percentage in their body, giving personalised insights on current health status. Together with a food diary, our Practitioner identified possible improvements which Mark rigidly stuck to and fast forward to today and the results are better than expected with a weight loss of 13lbs! He says, “When I first came in, I felt mentally low and always tired. With encouragement from the Practice, I now feel healthier, more energetic and I’m bouncing up the stairs with more get up and go than before!” And Mark’s not the only one to notice: “My colleagues have commented on not only the weight loss and the fact that I can fit into my work coat again for the first time in 18 months but also the increase in my motivation and energy..’!”

Other Creative Chiropractic Patients have noticed health improvements from taking the test, so what’s the secret to their success? Mark says, “having all the information fully explained to me by the Practitioner was really good and a key turning point as it trained my brain to think about my lifestyle differently and gave me the confidence to embrace the advice. I now understand the reasons for my cravings and how to handle them in my daily life.

* Latest update! * As of January 27th, Patient Mark Wright has taken off eight years from his metabolic age! Well done, Mark!

Want to try it?

The Practice’s new and unique 30-minute Health Guide service is available for just £15 during an introductory period over the next 4 weeks (normally £35), so let us help you to achieve your goals for a younger and healthier you in 2018! New exhibition at Pensthorpe…

Michael I'Anson, Photography, Pensthorpe Natural ParkThe talented photographers on the Portfolio Development course @ Pensthorpe, including Creative Practitioners, Susi and Michael, share new work in their second exhibition…

This is the second exhibition by this group and it is well worth a visit. There is a wonderful vibrancy about this new work – beautiful colours and also muted, soft tones.

portfolio development @ pensthorpe, creative chiropractic

James Brown’s work explores the light and plants at Pensthorpe and he has used a range of techniques to produce delicate split toned images as well as gorgeous full-colour studies.

Creative’s Michael I’Anson shares a powerful group of monochrome images that grab the attention and are bold in their use of black & white – stunning. Congratulations to Michael as he has just gained his LRPS.

Maggie Mole’s work is gentle, and has an abstract quality as she explores the gardens and plants at Pensthorpe. This is a carefully considered set of images that beautifully complement one another and create a sense of peace and calm.

Creative’s Susi Hancock has a lovely mix of images with a muted high key piece entitled: ‘Seeds Blowing’ which contrasts with the colourful plant portraits and vibrant ‘Desert Cacti’.

Bruce Page shares his strong and colourful work which is bold and arresting – the deep blacks provide a dramatic backdrop for the colourful plants.

And finally, Rhonda Pike with her ethereal series of images which use split toning and duo-tone techniques. Her panel work so well together and demonstrate the wonderful skills of this talented photographer.

Pensthorpe Natural ParkFrom 29 November 2017 to spring 2018, you will be able to view the work of this talented group of photographers in The Exhibition Room at Pensthorpe. Entry is free.

Meet the Daily Mail award winning illustrator who brought Mr. Bownes to life!

From the drawing board to annual Creative calendar superstar, we chat to Mr Bownes creator, Andy Ward (www.andyward.com) about drawing, deadlines and designing for the Daily Mail…

“Yesterday I drew an illustration for the cover of The Daily mail for a piece on the rise of Centenarians for their Good Health section.”

Daily Mail, andy ward, illustrator“I drew a colourful happy, dancing, silver-haired lady partying with her friends in a pair of pink spotted glasses in the shape of the number 100. This woman (left) was my Nan, who would have also been 100 this year had she just managed a couple more years. Super positive, I never heard her grumble once and the perfect reference for that illustration.”

“I often reference people I know and meet in the illustrations I do for the newspapers and magazines as my life experience is where my ideas are drawn from. I observe and file away character traits that are pulled into my work on demand. Commissioning deadlines for the daily papers can be as little as 45 minutes and there is often no time to reference, just speed draw from memory. The pressure is great as editors often change their minds as the clock ticks and the art desk will often change the size and format of an illustration when in progress as they lay out a page, so flexibility and a well-stocked memory bank of ideas and references is essential. There is nothing like a blank page, a 45-minute deadline and a slot in a national newspaper to focus the mind. Ideas have to come.”

“So much like a writer may store to memory experiences for future use, illustrators store visual experiences for future use in their work. Life is work, work is life. The flip side of this is never switching off, always being in work when busy and all of this time is spent hunched over a drawing tablet. Needless to say, my back has taken years of abuse and this is where I make my point. Mr Bownes, the character I created for Creative Chiropractic is referencing myself. My life experience of suffering a bad back as a result of my work offered first hand reference for Mr Bownes. Over the years Mr Bownes has developed from a character in a medical chart, through to this year’s 2018 calendar which sees him travel the world taking extreme selfies with photo-bombing animals. Happiness and health are one and the same. Hats off to Michael and the team at Creative Chiropractic, thanks for keeping me happy and healthy at the drawing board!”

It’s about the ‘roar’ in your core!

Creative Chiropractic at Pensthorpe celebrate the arrival of their newest team member, Rehabilitation Specialist, Rachael Curnow, who explains: “Whether you’re an international cycling professional or simply wanting to be able to do the gardening again, I am confident that I can help you return to your day-to-day living and sporting activities that have been affected by injury, illness or surgery…

Rachael Curnow, rehab, creative chiropractic, rehabilitation, pensthorpe, core, treatment, sports injury, north norfolkWe all know that dreaded feeling of being told we need to go to the gym. Getting a ‘sweat on’ and working our core can all seem like quite a chore! Gym invites sent through the door with pictures of glamourous females and muscly men may only allow us to notice how far from that picture we actually feel, leading to discouragement and pessimism.

But perhaps it isn’t all about that… would a supercar be known just for its pretty exterior or even an old classic for its retro design? Maybe it helps a little, but let’s strip all that back, after all, what’s the use of a beautiful machine that doesn’t function properly? Isn’t it the ‘roar’ of the engine from the fine tuning, to the efficiency in performance, the movement and the strong structure that creates this wonderful mechanism? Welcome to Rehabilitation at Creative Chiropractic, where I would like to invite you down a whole new road of discovery. A road that will lead you to encouragement and optimism and one that is about you and your engine, it’s about the ‘roar’ in your core!

So let me introduce myself…

I’m the newest member of Creative Chiropractic’s unique team, where our beautiful home is within the stunning grounds of Pensthorpe Natural Park. Having worked within my field for over ten years, my greatest reward is experiencing positive successes helping people from a wide variety of backgrounds and of different ages.

Working alongside our highly skilled Chiropractor and Massage Therapists, I will provide you with an individual and tailored treatment plan to realise your personal goals and challenges, whatever they may be.

You may still be wondering what rehabilitation is and what does it mean?

The mechanics of it… Let’s go back to the car analogy, strangely we are very similar in principle. A car needs oil, we need water, a car needs fuel, we need food, a car needs servicing, we need restoration time, if the car has been sat a while… yes, you get the picture. If we don’t look after the car it will only breakdown, why would our bodies be any different? It really is as straight forward as that, but the key is getting a good mechanic to keep everything running smoothly and to your personal optimal level.

At our first appointment, we will discuss where you feel you need some guidance. Have you suffered from a sprain or fracture, or maybe you have had a trauma causing injury? It could be an illness which has affected your ability to do things or maybe you just don’t feel as co-ordinated and balanced as you used to.

Sports person? No problem! Never exercised before? No problem! We can work together to help you perform more effectively whatever your history and starting point. Rehabilitation is about restoring you, ‘getting your old self back’ and bringing the best out of you. A little progress every day adds up to big results. I will help you understand how, with appropriate exercises and your commitment, we can improve your posture, build joint stability, prevent injury or enhance your performance.

A human mechanic would perhaps be an easier way to understand what I do, so let’s retune that engine, rewire a few things, oil those rusty joints (I said rusty, not old!) and get the ‘roar’ back into your core. A helping hand is here and I look forward to meeting you at Creative Chiropractic.

For Rehabilitation & Sports Therapy treatment prices, click here or give the Creative Chiropractic team a call on 01328 854325, email info@creativechiropractic.co.uk to book an appointment.

Creative Chiropractic Patient competes in World Martial Arts Games for Great Britain!

Local Martial Arts Coach, Wayne Baker (46), of SESMA (South Eastern School of Martial Arts www.sesma.co.uk/) in Norwich is fighting fit as he flies out to Orlando this week to represent Great Britain in the Kata and Kumite teams at the World Martial Arts Games (www.wmagc.org/)…

Wayne Baker, SESMA, World Martial Arts Games, Creative ChiropracticWayne, who has been teaching Martial Arts for 25 years, started karate when he was just nine years old, achieving his Black Belt at 16 before going on to represent England four times in Karate winning gold, silver and bronze medals. In 2017, Wayne has continued with competing and is currently 2nd place in the Norfolk Open Grand Prix and the Peterborough Grand Prix Series.

Due to recent success, he was invited to compete in the National Martial Arts Commission qualifying series for the Great Britain Team in Florida this month. After over 20 years retirement from competitive martial arts, being selected for Team GB is a fantastic achievement!

On Saturday 9th September, Wayne will be competing in Japanese Kata and also Korean Forms. Since competing last minute in Kumite (sparring) at a GB qualifying competition, he was also asked to enter the Kumite competition which required him having to lose over a stone to get into the weight category, so Wayne will also be fighting in the Kumite competition on Sunday 10th September.

Michael I'Anson, Wayne Baker, Linda I'Anson, creative chiropractic, pensthorpeTo attend the World Championships, competitors have to fund their own campaign, so Creative Chiropractic, among other local businesses, is co-sponsoring Wayne. Creative Chiropractic’s Linda says: “Wayne has been a patient at the Practice for two years, receiving chiropractic and massage treatments.”

Michael I'Anson, creative chiropractic, wayne baker, SESMA, World Martial Arts Games, FloridaWayne often gives his sponsors a shout out on social media from his Facebook Page: “Creative Chiropractic do wonders for me! In particular, my glutes, hamstrings and IT (iliotibial) bands take a lot of punishment from my sport, so regular treatment prevents me from getting serious injuries.”

Everyone at Creative Chiropractic wishes Wayne the very best of luck at the World Martial Arts Games!
